Bombers Ride Wave; Roll Past Cardinals

The Ballard softball team secured a crucial 3-0 win over Newton in the regional quarterfinal on Thursday night, held in Newton.  The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when the Bombers capitalized on key opportunities to break the deadlock.  Maggie Mortensen's fielder's choice brought in the first run, setting the stage for Avery Phillips, who delivered a clutch two-run double to extend the Bomber's lead.

Brooklyn Baumgardner was the star on the mound for the Bombers, pitching a masterful complete game. She allowed only one hit throughout the night, keeping Newton's offense at bay and ensuring a shutout victory for the Bombers.

With this victory, the Bombers improved their season record to 12-19 (7-9).

The team now looks ahead to a challenging matchup against the No. 3 ranked Norwalk Warriors in the regional semifinal.  The Bombers will travel to Norwalk for the 7:00 PM game on Saturday, July 13.
