Bombers Successful In String Of Games

The Ballard softball team recently completed a busy stretch, playing five games in just three days and concluding with a 3-2 record during this period.

On Thursday, the Bombers secured a victory against conference rival Boone with a 6-3 win in extra innings.  Avery Phillips and Kayci Rigby both had solid performances, each collecting two hits.  Brooklyn Baumgardner started for the Bombers and earned the win with 4 strikeouts, while Phillips pitched four innings and scattered six hits.

Moving on to Friday, the Bombers faced #10 Atlantic and narrowly fell to the Trojans with an 8-7 scoreline.  Baumgardner stood out with a 2 for 3 performance, including a double.  Phillips and Maddie Schonhorst contributed with two RBI each.

During the weekend's Winterset Tournament, the Bombers showed their competitive edge.  They started strong by defeating #7 I-35 in extra innings with a score of 3-2.  Jada Lande played a key role with two RBI and a home run.  In the second game, they faced a tough challenge against #1 Van Meter, resulting in a 6-0 loss with Lande securing the only hit for the Bombers.  However, they bounced back in the final game, triumphing over #5 Ankeny with a 4-1 victory.  Baumgardner pitched a stellar game, striking out five and allowing just one run, while Phillips contributed with a two-run homer.

With this performance, the Bombers' season record stands at 3-4 (1-2).

They are gearing up for their next match on Tuesday, May 28, hosting #14 Indianola. The junior varsity game will kick off at 5:30 PM, followed by the varsity match.
