Persistent Bombers Edge Dutch In Season Opener

The Ballard football team stayed the course in their 20-17 win over Pella on Friday night.  The Bombers would be stricken early with turnovers that turned into points for Pella to put the Bombers in a 17-6 defecit heading into the fourth quarter.  The Bombers, however, would keep battling scoring twice in the fourth quarter to take a 20-17 which they would hold on to for their first win of the season.

The Bomber's ground game was led by Eli Rouse who carried the ball 25 times for 215 yards and two touchdowns.  Rouse also had two receptions for 35 yards and a score.  Jude Gibson had two catches for 37 yards.  Mason Gatchel was 8 of 20 for 115 yards and a touchdown pass in his season debutat quarterback.

Defensively, the Bombers were led by Rhett Hedrick who had 10 tackles on the night.  Jack Nelson had nine tackles and Brody Sampson had eight tackles.  Tucker Vitzthum had an interception.

With the win, the Bombers improve to 1-0 (0-0) on the season.

The Bombers are back in action on Friday - September 1 when they host Humboldt in non-district action.  The freshman game will kick off at 4:45 PM and the varsity will kick off at 7:30 PM.
