Bombers Pick Up Two Home Wins

The Ballard baseball team showcased their offensive prowess with a convincing 11-4 victory over ADM on Thursday at Nite Hawk Field.  The Bombers set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning and maintaining their lead throughout the game.  Eli Rouse, a senior center fielder, had a solid performance with two RBIs, while junior second baseman Nicolas Schonhorst contributed with two runs, one hit, and one RBI. 

Junior pitcher Jacob Luster was dominant on the mound, pitching six innings, allowing only five hits, two runs (one earned), and striking out seven. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in one.  Junior designated hitter Miles Mudd added two hits and two RBIs, and both senior first baseman Jaxon Hermann and freshman shortstop Sid Farmer each recorded two hits and two RBIs.

The Bombers continued their winning streak with an explosive 17-0 win against Marshalltown on Friday.  The Bombers exploded for eight runs in the first inning and added nine more in the second, effectively putting the game out of reach early.  Senior center fielder Eli Rouse and junior pitcher Nicolas Schonhorst both went 1-for-1, each scoring two runs.  Junior shortstop Jacob Luster was perfect at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI.  Sophomore catcher Stetson Kane had a standout performance, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI.  Senior first baseman Drew Pingel contributed with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while senior right fielder Jakson Fleischmann hit a triple and drove in two runs.

On the mound, the pitching was equally impressive. Junior pitcher Nicolas Schonhorst started the game, pitching one inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Senior pitcher Beau Warg and sophomore pitcher Michael Wiechmann each pitched two innings, with Warg allowing only one hit and Wiechmann striking out three without giving up a hit.

These back-to-back wins bring Ballard's record to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Raccoon River Conference.

The Bombers are back in action on Monday, June 3, hosting Winterset.  The junior varsity game kicks off at 5:00 PM, followed by the varsity game.
