Bombers Split In NonConference Games

The Ballard Bombers baseball team had a challenging week as they faced off against Webster City and Grinnell in nonconference matchups.  Despite a valiant effort, the Bombers were shorthanded due to many athletes participating in the State Track Meet. 

Ballard 9, Webster City 7

In a thrilling game on the road against Webster City, the Bombers managed to secure a hard-fought victory with a final score of 9-7.

Offensive Highlights:
Jacob Luster led the charge, going 3-for-4 with 2 runs and an RBI.
Jaxon Hermann contributed significantly, going 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs.
Miles Mudd was perfect at the plate, going 1-for-1 with 2 RBIs.

Pitching Performances:
Jacob Luster pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 4, finishing with a 2.33 ERA.
Owen Greco provided strong relief, pitching 5 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run, and striking out 7 with a 1.40 ERA.

Grinnell 6, Ballard 3

Returning home, the Bombers faced Grinnell in a tight contest but ultimately fell short, losing 6-3.

Offensive Highlights:
Drew Pingel stood out, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Jacob Luster and Jaxon Hermann each added a hit, with Hermann driving in one run.
Jake Oldenkamp also contributed, going 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Pitching Performances:
Nicolas Schonhorst started on the mound, pitching 2 innings and giving up 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2.
Jaxon Hermann provided solid relief, pitching 5 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 earned run, and striking out 2 with a 1.40 ERA.

Looking Ahead

The Bombers will look to rebound in their next game, which is their RRC Conference opener against Bondurant-Farrar on Monday, May 20, at 5:00 PM.
