Hometown: Chicago, IL
Previous College: University of Chicago - Penn State University - University of South Carolina - University of Rochester

Marian is happy to serve the Ballard community by volunteering to assist in coaching cross country and women's track (as her work schedule permits).  All three of her children have participated in track and cross country at Ballard.

Marian works full-time at Iowa State University as Professor with appointments in the Department of Kinesiology and the graduate programs of Immunobiology, Neuroscience, Gerontology, and Nutritional Sciences.  In her research lab, they evaluate the impact of exercise on immune response.

Prior to Marian's research career, she worked on the east coast as a health/fitness director of a corporate wellness center, and as an exercise physiologist in a hospital-based wellness program and a university wellness program.  Marian has been certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as an exercise specialist and certified by the USA Track and Field (USATF) as a Level 1 track and field coach.  Her coaching philosophy is to accept each athlete for who he or she is and instill the concept that one’s maximum effort on a daily basis is a sure way to live a rewarding life.
